Last Thursday was fa-boo-lous! Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Halloween boat cruise. From witches to vampires, there were some spooktacular costumes on display. Hats off to everyone who joined us out on the water. More than 40 buddies joined us for our Halloween cruise. When we started Gig Buddies Sydney almost five years ago we would never have had so many participants join us for an event that finished so late on a school night. And that’s testament to our wonderful buddies and volunteers. Gig Buddies participants, Audrey, Myra, Lachie, Stavros and Fraser answer a few questions about their journey with the Gig Buddies Sydney project. Gig Buddies is a volunteer befriending initiative for adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism, matching them with a volunteer who shares similar interests. Volunteers and participants go to "gigs" together once or twice a month. A "gig" can be anything from seeing a pub rock band to opera, footy or art gallery visits. It's Fun Friday and today we hear from members of of user-led group, Soul Fly Band, all of whom are active buddies; they talk about the fun things they and their volunteers have done together.

On Friday 16/11/2018 Gig Buddies Sydney headed to Mona Vale’s Modus Operandi to announce their exciting intentions for service users based on Sydney’s northern beaches. The plan is that from 2019 they want the northern beaches to host the first ‘Gig Buddies Sydney hub’, whereby a team member will be present at various locations from across the region on a fortnightly occurrence. They’re wanting to better engage with buddies from the area, along with increasing their presence with likeminded organisations - all with the intention of getting more people with mild to moderate learning disability paired up and going to gigs with a buddy. On the night they were joined by representatives from Northern Beaches Council, Link Housing, Fragile X Association, Art Enabled and Nexus Inc Tasmania, along with volunteers, gig buddies and their families and friends. International College of Management Sydney students Charlotte, Lochie, Meg, U Na, Mitchell, Thomas and Norah, as part of their studies, volunteered their time during our Gig Buddies Sydney shindig held at Bondi's Spring Street Social (20 November 2015).
