How long is a piece of string III

Writer's picture: Gig Buddies SydneyGig Buddies Sydney

It’s mid term report time.

For the past two years we’ve written similar articles that outline the challenges we face when it comes to making matches, focussing in particular on the imbalance of volunteers we have to gig buddies and the potential time it takes to pair up people.

To better illustrate our point we created a map of Sydney, showcasing where we sit in terms of numbers.

As highlighted by the map, we have an abundance of unmatched volunteers in the Inner West and Eastern Suburbs, along with a large number of unpaired buddies from the Northern Suburbs.

Nothing has changed when it comes to our approach: in addition to pairing people based on mutuals interests, we also pay attention to the geographic location of both gig buddy and volunteer; gender and age preference, along with the ability to travel independently are also considered.

We are taking steps to get more and more people paired up. Only this weekend we held another volunteer training session. Thanks to Erin, Joseph and Brendan (below, L to R) for attending. We have penciled in two more sessions for later in July, readying seven more volunteers.

To those still waiting, we’re trying our level best, but sometimes it comes down to luck and whether there’s a volunteer available within the area who happens to share the same passions as a buddy.

In other news, from today until the end of August I will be commencing paternity leave. During this timeframe I’ll only be in the office on a Monday.

Should you have a query or wish to attend one of our two remaining Cronulla Sharks fixtures, please send all emails to: info@gigbuddiessydney.org
