2023…. we hear ya!

Following on from Wednesday’s epic Christmas party (more on that later), we bring you news of our January intentions.

Our first three outings for 2023 take us to Parramatta, Palm Beach and Gosford.

Next month we invite buddies to join us at Club Parramatta for a bite to eat on the 19th. Later in the month we head north for a beach gathering, and we conclude our January outings with a trip Central Coast Stadium for the A League clash between the Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Party like it’s 2022

As mentioned in the intro, last Wednesday (7/12) we held another colossal Gig Buddies party.

This time we took over the ground floor of legendary Sydney venue The Burdekin for our festive celebrations.

It’s been three years since our last festive group gathering. It was wonderful to catch up with so many people once again!

More than 150 of you joined us - thank you to everyone who attended our final event for the year! We can’t wait to do it all again in 2023.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

"Always have fun going out and about”

Each and every month we bring you news and views from members of our user-led team, Soul Fly Buddies.

Today we hear from Audrey, who shares her thoughts on 2022 and looks at the year ahead.

- Looking back on 2022, what are you most proud of in your work with Soul Fly Buddies?

"What’s not to love working with Soul Fly Buddies and creating different events for everyone to get out and about, discovering new places along the way to help Gig Buddies Sydney?”

- Why do you enjoy working with your fellow Soul Fly Buddies members?

"Well after I joined in 2015 I have seen some members come and go, while some have stayed from the beginning. I also felt and thought it was great that I could meet new people and make friends like Soul Fly Buddies. Gig Buddies had change my world for me”

- What are you most looking forward to doing with Soul Fly Buddies in 2023

"Well I’m looking forward doing more exciting things in the new year with them. And making more new events.”

- Any final words?

"Always have fun going out and about. When one door closes another one will open and great things will come.”

- Audrey, Soul Fly Buddies

Thank you

Over the past two years, the Gig Buddies project has been connecting communities and promoting social inclusion to a wider audience through the development of Gig Buddies "Hubs" .

Hub coordinators Aylin (Western Sydney) and Matthew (Central Coast) have demonstrated that having a local presence in their regions is integral in bringing together participants and volunteers, and connecting with local councils, businesses, disability organisations and community groups.

The merit of Gig Buddies hubs has been recognised by the Department of Social Services who have allocated funding from the Information Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program to support the establishment of additional hubs, grow the project beyond its current capacity and deliver the benefits of the program to a wider audience.

ACL Disability Services and the Gig Buddies team would like to thank DSS and the ILC program for helping us play a part in reducing social isolation and creating an inclusive and vibrant Gig Buddies community.

Gig Buddies Central Coast coordinator
