A walk down memory lane

Calling all buddies - this Friday (29/1) we attend our final Sydney Festival gig for the summer.

Taking place at the Australian National Maritime Museum, we invite participants “to try and understand another person by walking a mile in their shoes. This one-of-a-kind pop-up store, housed in a giant shoebox at the Australian National Maritime Museum allows you to do just that.

Visitors are invited to enter the store and try on a pair of shoes that belong to someone else and to listen to their story. It might be a tale of loss and sadness, hope and love, of odds overcome. But whoever’s shoes you walk in, A Mile in My Shoes will take you to places you can’t anticipate.”

This is a free event and we’ll be meeting outside the venue at 10am. Please note, attendees are required to bring their own smart phone and headphones to stream the audio.

This little buddy went to market

On the subject of the Sydney Festival, thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday at the ADC Makers Market in Darlinghurst.

Buddies soaked up the sun and got amongst the market stalls, checking out handmade and collectible craft items on sale, and afterwards we made our way to Hyde Park House for drinks on the rooftop.

Let’s get physical

This week we invite buddies to a new online event - get fit with Gig Buddies Sydney.

It’s time to roll out the yoga mat. We’ll be working up a sweat to two YouTube videos, one clip offering a full body workout and the other focusing on chair yoga. Our Zoom session will last one hour (the two videos run for 30 minutes). We will be stopping for plenty of rests and will encourage attendees to “go at their own pace”.

If you would like to join us for our first ever online fitness session, click on the link below:

Four more to the pack

We’re excited to welcome this week’s newest matches.

Say hello to Lisa and Brianna (top left, L - R), Barrie and Grant (top right, L - R), Sami and Tarryn (bottom left, L - R) and Kirra and Becky (bottom right, L - R). We look forward to hearing about your forthcoming adventures.

A trio of newbies

And we also want to say “thank you” to our three newest trained volunteers.

It was great to meet Anna, Liam and Tom (above, L - R). We look forward to introducing you to your new buddies soon.

Lights, camera, action 🎬

We want to offer a huge congratulations to buddies Ricky and Joni, who appeared on the big screen at last night’s Flicker Fest.

Other buddies were also present in Bondi to watch What Was It Like, a 15 minute documentary that features eight filmmakers with intellectual disability who interview their parents about what it was like when doctors delivered the news of their diagnosis.

Congratulations to all involved. More photos from last night’s premiere can be viewed here.

And finally……

If you’re in Chatswood and fancy a bite to eat, you have six days left to help us raise some funds via Grill’d Burgers’ Local Matters charity initiative.

We’ve been nominated us as one of their Local Matters charities for January - and the group with the most lids at the end of the month takes home $300.

Grill’d Chatswood can be found at Shop 7 The Concourse, 405-419 Victoria Avenue.
