Out and about

On the subject of our socials, we caught up with buddies at two events last week.

Firstly, we headed to the newly refurbished Allianz Stadium at Moore Park for the game between the Matilda’s and Canada.

It was incredible to be there for the first ever football match. Unfortunately, Australia couldn’t get up on the evening, losing 2-1 to Canada.

LOL

A little later in the week we got our laugh on as we headed to the Kirribilli Club for a night of stand up comedy.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the north shore. We laughed so much we forgot to take any photos!

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Doubling up

We’ve been on a pairing spree.

Welcome to the family Ellyce and Deanna (above left, L - R) and Beth and Ash (above right, L - R). It’s great to have you all on board and we look forward to hearing about your forthcoming catch ups.

NSW Volunteering Taskforce - consultation

The NSW Volunteering Taskforce is inviting online written submissions from stakeholders across the NSW Volunteering Sector.

The NSW Volunteering Taskforce is being established by the Hon. Natasha Maclaren-Jones MLC, in her capacity as Minister responsible for Volunteering. The Taskforce is being created as a key initiative under the Government’s NSW Volunteering Strategy 2020-2030.

This is an exciting opportunity to engage with and hear from the NSW Volunteering Sector. It is the first of its kind in NSW.

The Taskforce is consulting with the NSW Volunteering Sector to identify emerging trends, issues, and opportunities across the sector. Responses from the sector will shape the NSW Volunteering Taskforce Report with recommendations for action.

The Taskforce encourages you to have your say, so that we can work together to ensure the NSW Volunteering Sector is as best and vibrant as it can be.

Who should provide an online submission?

The Taskforce is seeking submissions from:

  • Volunteers in NSW

  • Volunteer involving organisations operating in NSW

  • Businesses and other entities that work with volunteer involving organisations in NSW

  • Researchers and academics with an interest in volunteering.

If you are a volunteer making a contribution in NSW, either formally with an organisation, or informally in your community, the Taskforce would like to hear from you.

The Taskforce is hoping to hear from as many voices as possible, from across the sector in NSW, so please take this opportunity to have your say on a wide range of topics.

Lodge an online submission

Online submissions are lodged via the Department of Communities and Justice’s SmartyGrants platform, which is a secure and user-friendly system. To lodge a submission, or to preview the submission form, load up the link below and register as a user following the prompts (if you do not already have a SmartyGrants account).

Submissions must be lodged online via SmartyGrants by 5:00pm on Friday, 30 September 2022. The SmartyGrants system automatically shuts off at 5:00pm on that day.

To make a submission, click here. And for more information about the NSW Volunteering Taskforce, load up this link.

For all enquiries, email the Secretariat of the NSW Volunteering Taskforce at nswvolunteeringtaskforce@facs.nsw.gov.au

New NDIS plan dates?

Here’s us with a friendly reminder for those buddies who have NDIS plans.

If you have an unscheduled plan review or the dates/details of your plan change for any reason, it’s very important you let us know.

Any changes to an NDIS participant's plan dates will automatically make your Gig Buddies service agreement void.

We need to be informed of any date changes so we can update your service agreement and ensure you’re still covered by our public liability insurance when out with your volunteer.

If there have been any changes to your plan or if you’re unsure about your current service agreement, please contact Chelsea, our NDIS Coordinator, either via email: chelsea@assistcom.org or phone: 0412 145 819 (Monday, Wednesday-Friday, 8am - 4pm).

COVID-19 Vaccinations - AN UPDATE

The NSW Chief Health Officer has extended the current exemption that allows workers (and volunteers) who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to continue to work if they have been assessed as being essential to the operation of the service.

All workers (and volunteers) who have not yet received their booster must also take reasonable steps to get the booster as soon as practical. The exemption has been extended to December 4 2022.

If you have already obtained your booster please send your certificate to info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text/WhatsApp it to 0411 252 228

Similarly, for those who have been granted an exemption from a medical professional, we require a copy of any relevant documentation.

You can access your vaccination certificate through your Medicare or MyGov account. For more information on how to obtain a copy, click here.
