Welcome Chelsea

We’re delighted to welcome the newest staff member to the Gig Buddies Sydney team, Chelsea.

Working on a part time basis, Chelsea (below right) is our newly appointed Gig Buddies Sydney NDIS coordinator and will be replacing Harri (below left), who is due to the leave the project at the end of the month.

In her own words, here’s more from Chelsea:

“I’m Chelsea and I’m so excited to be joining Gig Buddies Sydney! I’ll be taking on the NDIS coordinator role, following the incredible work that Harri has done during her time here.

Like many of you I’m a BIG music lover - at the moment I’m really into jazz, soul, RnB and a little bit of alt-rock, and I’m a particularly big supporter of the Australian music scene.

In terms of my work background, I’ve been involved in community radio for the last seven years as a radio presenter, programming director and music director. I’ve also supported and mentored students through radio courses, and I’m currently studying to be a qualified trainer.

I’m really excited to be a part of the Gig Buddies community - and I look forward to seeing you at socials in the future!”

Welcome the to the team, Chelsea.

Monday night at the movies

Tickets are still available for next Monday’s social event, taking place at the Northern Beaches’ Newport Arms Hotel (25/11).

Come and join your fellow buddies as we settle in for the cult classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

The film starts at 6:30pm and we’ll be arriving at 6pm to order food (click here to see the menu). This is a free night, just register your attendance via our online store, available here.

The night concludes at around 9pm. Please get in touch should you have any questions, either via phone (02 9419 6951) or email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

And, due to popular demand, we have extended our Christmas booking.

Now with room for 100 buddies, our party at the Bristol Arms Hotel - taking place on Saturday 7 December - will be our biggest ever social event.

On the night we’ll be served canapés and sliders (see list below) and, following our feed, buddies have the option to dance the night away at the venue’s Retro Bar.

As a reminder, the celebrations get under way at 5:30pm and we’ll be partying until late. The Bristol Arms Hotel is located on Sussex Street, a short stroll from Wynyard Train Station (see map below).

Tickets cost $55 each and can be purchased via our online store, available here.

100 up!

This week we made four new pairings: Thomas and Trishanth, Jesse and Aaron, Jessica and Annie (not pictured), and Lucy and Sarah (below, L - R).

These four new matches are significant as it takes us over the magic 100 mark in terms of actively paired up buddies.

We welcome all new pairings to the team, and we look forward to hearing more about their forthcoming adventures.

More men needed - a follow up

And finally, last week we launched an appeal to recruit more male volunteers.

We’ve since received three male volunteer applications - encouragingly all from north of the Harbour Bridge. Thank you to those who have signed up, you’re playing a role in tackling social isolation for men based in Sydney’s northern suburbs.

But we’re still on the hunt for more. With 12 days left until the end Movember, we call on our existing service users to nominate their male mates: we want to hear from brothers, dads, uncles, sons and granddads - can you tag three people who you think would make a difference?

If you know someone who’s a social butterfly and enjoys nothing more than watching a band or cheering on their favourite team, share the love by informing them of our appeal.
